FAQ

The MoonBoard is a standardized fixed wall at a 40° angle. It is harder on the fingers as it is great for benchmarking and strength training. Meanwhile, the Kilter Board is an adjustable wall, with a bigger range of hold types, therefore beginner-friendly but still great for advanced climbers.

Access to the Kilter and MoonBoard is included for UCalgary students and Active Living members. Non-members can purchase a drop-in Day Pass to climb.

Cancellations must be received prior to booking time. Failure to check-in or cancel will result in a no-show. After three no-shows, users cannot book until a penalty fee (day pass fee) is paid at the Active Living Client Services desk.

You can rent climbing shoes from the Outdoor Centre Climbing Office. Chalk is also available for purchase.

Rentals need to be returned prior to the climbing office closing hour.

The Kilter and MoonBoard are the same as the Racquet Centre hours.

Over the next year, the west wing of the Racquet Centre will be gradually repurposed to include new Fitness Bays, expanding our Active Living offerings. This project is an exciting opportunity to create a purpose-designed environment that supports growing users’ physical, mental, and social well-being. We understand that court availability is important, while other west courts will be repurposed, the 6 squash courts and 1 racquetball court in the east wing will remain. We are working to balance space for new opportunities while continuing to prioritize racquet programs and users.

No. Bookings are per person, and your spot applies only to you. If you are coming with a group, each person needs to book individually and check-in to secure their spot.

Some basic climbing experience is recommended, just start with easier routes and take your time. All skill levels are welcome! We recommend starting on the Kilter Board, as its adjustable angle and variety of hold types make it more beginner-friendly.

Download the Kilter Board or MoonBoard app, select the board and wall setup, and pick a problem that matches your skill level. The lights will guide your holds.

Yes, the Kilter Board is adjustable, from 0°-70°  overhang. The MoonBoard is always at a fixed angle of 40°. Please return the Kilter Board to the standard angle when you’re done if others are waiting.

Bookings are for one-hour blocks, and users may move between boards within that time.

Clean closed toe indoor or climbing shoes must be worn.

The Outdoor Centre Climbing Office, Client Services, or Fitness Centre front-line staff are happy to assist if you have questions.

There is a storage space beside Racquetball court #1, or you can store your personal belongings in the Active Living Change Room lockers.
