Climbing Wall

The wall was designed to simulate outdoor climbing and to practice leading on gear, anchor building, rappelling, rock rescue and crevasse rescue.

Sign a liability waiver

Prior to using the wall for the first time, you must sign a liability waiver which is available at the Outdoor Centre front desk. Then read the Safety Code.

Take the orientation and belay test

There is no instruction given during the belay test. Bring a partner, and test on either the ATC or Grigri. Cost is $5.

The wall is sometimes used for group lessons. Please check the schedules in advance to ensure that you have access.

Check in

Check in with photo ID or UCID and get a climbing wall wristband which you must wear at all times in the wall space.

Youth climbers

4–6 yrs: Parent or legal guardian must sign a youth consent form and the child must have direct adult supervision while climbing (adult must have a current climbing card). The use of a body harness is encouraged for youth 6 years old and younger.

7–13 yrs: Youth 7 and older are permitted to belay. Parent or legal guardian must sign a youth consent form and the child must have direct adult supervision while climbing and belaying (adult must have a current climbing card)

14–17 yrs: Youth 14–17 are permitted to use the climbing room without adult supervision after successfully completing the orientation and belay test. A parent or legal guardian must sign a youth consent form and must be present when the youth completes the Climbing Orientation and belay test.
